'A Day in the Woods' was a ten-month project at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Environmental Education Center, led by 2007-08 Writer in Residence, Jessica Jones. Each week Jones worked with thirty students in one-hour workshops, during which students heard, discussed, and wrote nature poetry. After taking notes outside, students shaped their observations of the landscape into short poems that they then read aloud for constructive criticism and group recognition. Ducks White as the Sky
As I see beautiful ducks in the pond, Swimming as fast as boats, I watch them singing notes; Ducks out above the pond Flying high and long Ducks white as the Sky.
JESSICA JONES Writer in Residence Jessica Jones holds degrees in art and literature from Kent State University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She is presently part-time faculty at the College of Wooster, where she works primarily with art and literature students on their senior thesis projects. When not teaching, reading, or writing, Jessica enjoys yoga, hiking, camping, travel, and live music.
