The trees are chanting and the birds are singing
The lake speaks to me and it is saying:
"Come down , rain, and fall into me."
The wind is silenced and the lake is saying:
"Bring down thy warmth, Sun, and heat me up."

Grade 5
'A Day in the Woods' was a ten-month project at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Environmental Education Center, led by 2007-08 Writer in Residence, Jessica Jones. Each week Jones worked with thirty students in one-hour workshops, during which students heard, discussed, and wrote nature poetry. After taking notes outside, students shaped their observations of the landscape into short poems that they then read aloud for constructive criticism and group recognition. Such a beautiful poem from such a young man. He must truely love the outdoors and nature. Let's hear more from that wonderful mind. Thanks
