Painted Indian flowers
are like a blue sunny sky. They move
in the wind; I hope someone lends
them a wave-
They would say
"good-bye".

'A Day in the Woods' was a ten-month project at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Environmental Education Center, led by 2007-08 Writer in Residence, Jessica Jones. Each week Jones worked with thirty students in one-hour workshops, during which students heard, discussed, and wrote nature poetry. After taking notes outside, students shaped their observations of the landscape into short poems that they then read aloud for constructive criticism and group recognition. I think this is a very nice poem. One of the best I've ever seen.
Love,
Michayla's mom :)
