'A Day in the Woods' was a ten-month project at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Environmental Education Center, led by 2007-08 Writer in Residence, Jessica Jones. Each week Jones worked with thirty students in one-hour workshops, during which students heard, discussed, and wrote nature poetry. After taking notes outside, students shaped their observations of the landscape into short poems that they then read aloud for constructive criticism and group recognition. Muddy
The day is cold, frozen and wet; Water and ice have met.
It is muddy, oh, so muddy... The day is very cruddy.
Water is flowing and rain keeps on going Until it's VERY muddy, oh so VERY muddy! And the day is now more cruddy.
JESSICA JONES Writer in Residence Jessica Jones holds degrees in art and literature from Kent State University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She is presently part-time faculty at the College of Wooster, where she works primarily with art and literature students on their senior thesis projects. When not teaching, reading, or writing, Jessica enjoys yoga, hiking, camping, travel, and live music.
